The jb community got a surprise announcement today with a newly released untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 7.1.1. That’s right, out of nowhere! There are a few caveats here, though, that_may_give you cause for concern. At the very least, we might encourage you to perhaps wait a few days before downloading and installing this jailbreak on your iOS device–and here’s why…
The practicality of it all is that jailbreak tools rarely are released without a bug or two, like all new software–and that it may not be ready for the general public. In addition, their servers will most likely experience a ridiculous influx from the exciting news, and will get bogged down the first few days.
In addition, this new jailbreak tool, called Pangu, was developed by a little unknown group of Chinese hackers called the Pangu Jailbreak Team (@Dm557 @windknown @ogc557 @Daniel K4 @once demigod). Their version will install a piracy app to your iOS device by default–although you can uncheck the box that allows it to download. However, it looks as though many in the jailbreak community think it’s perfectly safe, despite the unknowns.
Even though the Pangu jailbreak will be available for both Mac and Windows, currently the Mac download link isn’t active. The Pangu team only says that it is “under development” right now. They have also included a detailed tutorial on how to jailbrak your device here if you are ready to take the plunge. In addition, there is an extensive Reddit thread discussing the jailbreak if you have any other questions.
