During their iPad Special Event last Thursday Apple also released the much anticipated public version of Mac OS X Yosemite with all the features we came to know last July at WWDC. Once again they also treated users to a free-uprade from Mavericks. If you are interested in downloading OS X Yosemite here’s how…
First, make sure your Mac is compatible, and that you have backed up your Mac or any important information/data you ca’t live without, just in case.
Select the Apple icon at the top left of your screen–>About This Mac–>More Info. Make sure you have one of the following Mac before you proceed further
- iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
- MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
- MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
- Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
- Xserve (Early 2009)
Next, check what version of OS X you currently have installed. You can upgrade directly from the following versions
- OS X Snow Leopard / 10.6.8
- OS X Lion / 10.7
- OS X Mountain Lion / 10.8
- OS X Mavericks / 10.9
Other “general” requirements…
- OS X v10.6.8 or later
- 2GB of memory
- 8GB of available storage
Now, all that’s left to do is download the update and install
You can find the direct link to the Mac App Store here, or if you are unable to download for any reason, you can also visit any Apple retail store to upgrade your Mac for free.
