The next gen iPhone 2.0 software is now expected to bring a contact search and meeting invites feature. This is according to the latest builds sent out to developers. New screenshots reveal a new search bar in the contacts menu.

Also worthy of note, the calendar application that was previously inactive now provides access to a meeting invitation interface. It displays the number of new requests as an icon badge, much like you see when you miss a phone call, SMS, or there is an update in installer.app.
As WWDC approaches, keep your fingers crossed that the iPhone 2.0 software and 3G iPhone will be unveiled there. I think we can be certain that one of these will be unveiled… Both would be great.
