Updated iPhone Apps: AppMiner

AppMiner for iPhone AppMiner

AppMiner is a nice little app that helps you find good apps, and discounted apps, in the App Store.  I took a quick look at it a few weeks back, and liked it a lot.

Now it ‘s had its first update and added a few good new features, including one I had mentioned I wanted to see “ which is the ability to search by title or by keyword.  The reason for that is that quite often standard searches (in the App Store itself and in other apps) include apps ‘ descriptions by default “ so you get a ton of spurious results to wade through, not least because lots of cynical developers pad their descriptions with crappy phrases along the lines of ‘If you like every single popular app I can think to list here ‘ you ‘ll like my app “ and they list every popular app they can, even though they have nothing whatsoever in common with their app.

Check out the two screencaps above “ where I searched for ‘Enigmo ‘ – for a good example of how handy a title-only search can be.  The screencap on the left is the keyword search “ which comes up with several hits. In this case the multiple results are ‘legit ‘ ones that are from the same developer, Pangea Software, but it shows how much more I get just from choosing the keyword search.  The screencap on the right shows a title search that just gets me one result, and is exactly what I ‘m after.

The title-only search should be a huge timesaver for lost of occasions where I know the name of an app I ‘m interested in, and I don ‘t want to wade through pages of irrelevant results.

The other enhancements to the new version “ Version 1.5 – of AppMiner are:

Support for international stores

Faster load time

The ability to choose several non-US stores should be a big help as well.  Currently 11 stores are available to choose, including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Italy, and France.  Hopefully this will soon extend to cover all international App stores.

AppMinerStores

This is a good update to an already strong application.
