Am I ‘App-noxious’? I Hope Not, but Maybe So …

A recent post at MSNBC.com asks whether ‘you ‘ are app-noxious, and comes to the conclusion that for many of us who own smartphones the answer is yes.  It maintains that many of us bore and annoy our family, friends, and work colleagues by talking at length about and showing off our latest and greatest apps.  It also talks about how we sometimes act the know-it-all by looking up information via our smartphones and settling a debate round a restaurant table about which year XYZ movie came out, or similar.

Yes, thanks to a wave of popular new apps, our phones are now capable of passing gas, passing judgment, and annoying our friends, family and colleagues in a much more efficient, high-tech manner.

They ‘ve also granted us the power to instantly correct ” and/or alienate ” anyone around us in a matter of seconds because of Web access at our fingertips.

I ‘m a huge apps junkie, and a huge believer in the iPhone OS platform, so the MSNBC article made me think about whether I ‘m guilty of being app-noxious.  I ‘ve thought about this for a bit, and my answer for now is that I think I am guilty of this at times, but hopefully not all the time, or even most of the time.

I hope there ‘s a line somewhere between being app-noxious and overbearing and just being passionate and excited about something, and wanting to share it with friends, family and colleagues.  I hope I ‘m able to see and respect that line most of the time.  If I can see that someone ‘s eyes glaze over when you mention the iPhone, or even mobile devices or apps in general, I ‘ll usually keep quiet and not rabbit on about those subjects.  Or if someone says flat-out that they like their phone to just be a phone and have no interest in any of this smartphone nonsense, I ‘ll probably refrain from talking about these subjects as well (most of the time anyway).

On the other hand, if people around me are interested in the iPhone and iPhone apps, whether they ‘re new to it or experienced, then I ‘ll very happily while away lots of time talking about apps.  I have several friends and close family members who have recently switched to iPhone, and who are always keen to learn more about how to use the iPhone and to trade apps stories and recommendations.  When conversations with these folks turns to apps, I certainly won ‘t be complaining “ but I ‘m also always keen to talk about sports, movies, and just general life stuff and nonsense.

So anyway “ I ‘ve thought a little about it and my verdict on whether I ‘m app-noxious seems to be a resounding ‘maybe ‘, or ‘sometimes ‘.  I guess perhaps I should poll my friends and family and see what they say, or yikes, do I really want to know? 🙂

How about you all “ do you consider yourselves app-noxious?
