I ‘m not big on keeping up with all the latest financial and market type numbers for the iPhone on a consistent basis, but some numbers just jump out at me. Today ‘s example in a report at Apple Insider is the rapid growth rate for iPhone ‘s share of the global smartphone market, from last year to this year.
Their share of the global smartphone market more than doubled and grew by over 128% compared to the first 3 months of 2008 “ according to research from Gartner.
Some other quick things that stand out for me in the numbers reported:
The huge uphill battle Palm faces. They ‘re not even mentioned in the chart “ but the ‘Others ‘ category shows minus 24% growth in the last year.
A 10% share already for iPhone seems quite impressive “ considering they ‘ve entered this market less than two years ago, still have very few models, and have yet to break into some key international markets.
Nokia ‘s big numbers surprise me a lot. I know they ‘re huge in the overall cellphones market, but I ‘m surprised that they sell that many of their N and E series and any others that could be classed as smartphones. I wonder how good the definition of smartphone is in this research.
Anyway, impressive numbers for iPhone. Add a new model “ or preferably models “ this summer, break into a few more international markets, and these figures should be even more striking next year .
