Last night was a big night for updates on a few very popular iPhone apps, and a few that have promient places on my home screens at the moment. The three major ones for me were Twitterrific, Kindle for iPhone, and Word Scramble (the app formerly known as Prince Scramble Live).
Twitterrific ‘s new version number is 2.0.1 and its one notable addition is a new setting to choose how many tweets to load in the timeline “ 50/100/200. I ‘ve seen a number of users ask for this feature, so it ‘s nice to see it added in this update. Apart from that, there are several bug fixes listed under details for 2.0.1.
Kindle for iPhone ‘s new version number is 1.1 and it adds a few little niceties to the app. You can now read in portrait or landscape mode, select alternate background and text colors, tap on either side of the screen or flick to turn pages, and pinch to zoom images in books. This app is already very strong on the content side of things “ continuing to improve the interface, as in this update, is just what its users would like to see I think.
My favorite of the three updates last night is the one for Word Scramble though. Its new version number is also 1.1 and it contains a bug fix or two and unspecified UI improvements. The big addition, and the thing that makes this my favorite update, is Challenge Mode.
Word Scramble already had a couple of good play modes “ solo and online (against lots of folks at once via Facebook Connect). The new Challenge Mode will quickly become my favorite though “ as it lets you directly challenge friends for mano-a-mano word scrambling. 🙂
You can add friends via Facebook, from your address book, and by adding their friend code. By the time I installed the update last night it was too late to catch anyone awake for a Challenge showdown “ but I ‘m looking forward to trying it out soon.
