Sega today released the first official port of the classic Sega series, Sonic the Hedgehog. This appears to be a straight port of the 1991 original Mega Drive game and is the first installment of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

The game is played using controls that are overlaid on top of the action, rather than using the accelerometer as Sega has done in Super Monkey Ball. You can see the controls in the bottom corners of the screenshots.

There are two modes of game play-Full screen where the image is stretched to fit the entire screen or Arcade style that keeps the original screen resolution of 320 x 224. You can see the game in action here. This video shows both playing modes, starting full screen and switching to arcade at about 1:30.
