Once again, Apple has reversed the rejection of an app after it caused controversy and criticism. Eucalyptus “ a very nice looking new ebook reader that offers classics from the Project Gutenberg library “ had previously been rejected because it offered access to The Kama Sutra (via a manual search, just as many other iPhone ebook readers do, and just as could be done with Safari).
In fact, the developer was so frustrated with the whole process that he was looking at manually blocking the book in question just to gain approval.
Here ‘s what he had to say on the sudden change of course from Apple:
Earlier today I received a phone call from an Apple representative. He was very complimentary about Eucalyptus. We talked about the confusion surrounding its App Store rejections, which I am happy to say is now fully resolved. He invited me to re-build and submit a version of Eucalyptus with no filters for immediate approval, and that full version is now available on the iPhone App Store.
It seems like Apple must be seeing / hearing the barrage of criticism their decisions are regularly drawing “ given their climb-downs on so many recently “ so how many of these does it take before they put their whole reviews process to the sword?
You can find Eucalyptus in the App Store now, for $9.99.
