There ‘s a new (and free) app for the iPhone called Geek Test. Since I have worked at ‘geeky ‘ roles for years “ in support, network management and IT consultancy “ I thought this would be fun to take a look at.
The app is based on some un-named online test that I ‘ve never taken before, so I have nothing to compare it to “ but I do know I got a very low ‘geekness ‘ rating. Not sure whether to be happy or sad about that.
Here ‘s a little more about the app ‘s purpose, from its App Store description:
To help you to find your level on the geek attitude scale, here is an adaptation of an American test approved by the international geek community. This test is fun to take to the third degree and beyond. You will then be able to compare your level of geekness with your friends!
The app is quite basic, as you ‘d expect. It presents a fairly long set of quiz questions, in sections, and then grades you at the end.
Some of the sections include things like what you have read (testing your Science Fiction addiction it seems)
What you wear (apparently all real geeks are seriously eccentric or even tasteless dressers)
What you watch (again, looks like you need to be a big Sci-Fi fan to score high here)
And even what you believe in
Speaking of things we believe in, the app ‘s description indicates its devs are not big believers in equal opportunity geekdom
You’re a girl? No problem. Are you a geek’s girlfriend or do you pretend to be a one yourself? Take the test and you will find out!
Wow “ so you ‘ve got to be the girlfriend of a ‘real ‘ geek or you ‘re just a pretender eh. I know quite a few very geeky women on the web “ and I ‘m betting many of them would do far better than my paltry score
I think I fell down a lot for not being a huge Sci-Fi fan and not believing in unicorns enough.
You can find Geek Test in the App Store now, for free. If you have a chance to try it out, let me know how far ahead of me you are in the geek charts 🙂
