New iPhone Apps: Quantum Pool – What Pool Could Be If Reality Didn’t Get In The Way

Quantum Pool for iPhone

Quantum Pool is an interesting new (free) iPhone game, with a very nice spin on iPhone pool / billiards games, that lives up to the great tagline used in my post title – ‘what pool could be if reality didn ‘t get in the way ‘.

Here ‘s a little more from its App Store description:

A unique blend of pool, pinball, putt-putt and crazy physics, QP is in a category by itself. Each table has unique features and challenges including square and triangular balls, fission, pinball bumpers and even a black hole! Gameplay is easy, there is no cue ball, just two sets of colored balls, select one ball and try to knock in balls of the opposite color for 10 points, or lose 10 points if you wrongly hit the selected color in, and lose 1 point if you put nothing in.

I tried out Quantum Pool a little bit earlier on today, and I like the app a lot so far.  I only got a chance to try out 3 out of its 11 wild and wonderful tables “ the ones I took a shot at were:

  • The Black Hole “ where you shoot your colored ball at the opposite colored ones and try to leave them close enough to the black hole to get sucked into it.  Your shots get wickedly curved by the gravitational pull (is that even close to being the right term?) of the black hole and it ‘s challenging to keep your own balls away from it.
  • Arrowhead Stadium “ which has a football sort of concept to it “ the balls are triangles and you have to hit the opposite colored triangles with just the right level of force to push them over the goal line into the end zone.
  • Pinball Wizard “ where different bumpers have different levels of power in terms of how fast and far your balls ricochet off them, and so forth.

All three were good fun to play “ and I ‘m keen to try out the other tables when I get a chance.  The game ‘s interface is very plain, no fancy graphics here “ but it suits the overall style of the game and the physics part of it makes it all pretty wild and entertaining.  The controls are also easy to work with, and it doesn ‘t take long at all to get comfortable with them.

For a free game, I think this one is quite well done “ and I ‘ll certainly be keeping it around for now.

You can find Quantum Pool in the App Store now, and it ‘s free of course.
