I haven ‘t seen this error before, so thought I ‘d share it. Here ‘s the background on when I got it (and keep in mind I ‘m running OS 3.0, Beta 5 “ so your mileage may well vary on 2.x):
— My habit when using promo codes to acquire an app is to use the Redeem link in iTunes on the desktop (as you have to) and then do the install on the iPhone “ so I don ‘t have to cable-connect it to the Mac, go through a sync etc
— Usually when I do this, I get an advisory message saying something along the lines of ‘you ‘ve already purchased this app, press OK to download it ‘
Today ‘s message (shown in the screencap at the top of this post) is different though, and not in a good way. It basically says I need to go to my computer to re-download the app for free, or I can tap to buy it again (WTF?) “ thus defeating my ‘avoid cabled sync except when absolutely necessary ‘ approach to iPhone life.
This is the first time I ‘ve ever seen this message. When I ran a sync just now, the app installed just fine, but that ‘s not the issue for me “ the issue is not wanting to be forced to do a sync every time I acquire an app via a Redeem code. So I tried with a second code and a separate app, and got exactly the same result.
I really hope this is a glitch “ or that Apple is very soon going to make the Redeem capability work on the iPhone itself. Not a happy camper if I have to do more cabled syncing.
Anyone else seeing this new message, on OS 3.0 or other?
