Four iPhone models in capacities ranging from 4 to 32GB?

Engadget is reporting Apple has recieved approval for 4 new iPhone models from the PCS Type Review Certification Board. The new models are said to range from 4 to 32 GB in capacity.

Here is an excerpt:

4GB to 32GB — that’s one hell of a range, but we’re hearing from a trusted source that new iPhones in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities just garnered approval by the PCS Type Review Certification Board, the standards body responsible for certificating handsets for use with some carriers (AT&T, for instance).

The catch here is, Apple is supposedly artificially removing features from the 4GB version in order to differentiate the models in other ways besides storage capacities.

First off the only time I can think of Apple moving backwards in regards to storage capacities was when they introduced the iPod Touch in 2007. Even then, you could argue that the iPod Touch wasn’t replacing the iPod Classic, making this point moot.

Secondly Apple isn’t about to cheapen a single model to gain market share, they haven’t before and I don’t expect them to now.

I don’t know this whole thing sounds really fishy to me. My gut is telling me a possible 8GB model along side the sure fire 16 and 32GB models.

Just remember this is all purley speculation on my part, and I’ve been wrong before.
