Taylor if you add a new line to any account you get it at the cheaper price since it's a new contract and not renewing one

The terms for upgrade were clearly spelled out in the contract when you signed. I can understand how you would like AT&T to provide you subsidies all the time no matter how ofter you decide to change phones, but unfortunately if they did that, they would be recieving a government bailout at this point and you'd still be paying the extra $200 anyway in higher income taxes.

Guess what? If you don't like the phone on the pricing, don't buy it. However, I will be buying the 32GB 3GS on the afternoon of June 19th, and banging your girlfriend that evening….thanks to the coolest phone on the market!!!!!

"iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price, along with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 03/13/2010"

Wow. Way to alienate and risk losing your existing customer base.

Think you'll have to talk to AT&T on that one, and hope that you come across a person there who is clued up enough to give a correct answer. I would be tempted to talk to a few different AT&T people (via a local store, an 800 number etc) and make sure you find a proper and consistent set of answers from them.

Brandon – I hear you – AT&T couldn't really write a better script for pissing off current iPhone owners much more 🙁

I had card in hand basically ready to buy until I saw the prices for EXISTING customers. They can kiss my ass. I won't be buying it from AT&T / Apple. If anything I'll get one from eBay or Craigslist and not extend my contract. Way to screw people over AT&T.

They have been ATT customers for a long time

I do know AT&T seem a little clueless about all of this today, which seems dumb. Have a feeling maybe (slightly) better info will be available from them in a couple days time …

I contacted AT&T and they simply told me, "We won't sell the iPhone 3Gs for a few weeks."

Does anyone else know? Thanks!

*Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). Visit http://www.wireless.att.com for eligibility information. In CA, MA, and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone.
