From what I've seen in comments, these days the megapixels really doesn't make any difference in quality. With a 10 mp camera with a poor quality lens and ccd sensor, you can have yourself a huge poor quality photo. They say that a 2-3 mp camera with a decent quality lens and ccd sensor will blow away the contrasting high mp camera with lower quality lenses or ccd sensors. Megapixels are mostly used for marketing kind of like interpolated resolutions on scanners.

Pretty good specs on the performance side. I just wish they'd give the camera more oomph. I know this is not a "thing" you take pictures with all the time but it's quite nifty to have a phone/media player/whatevertheiphoneisusedfor with a camera you can use in those cases where you'd be kicking yourself for not bringing a good camera. Again, the Japanese have 8.1 mp cameras on their phone, why can't Apple do it?

He compares the System on Chip of the iPhone & 3G with the new 3G S and explains how the new phone may very well live up to the claim of it being up to 2x faster despite the seemingly marginal frequency jump because of some further core enhancements. It is a good read. Background: The website has been around forever. They're very hardware-centric and started as a PC overclocking site I think. For many, they have long been the go-to source for heavy technical details on all the latest CPUs and their architectures. They've consistently had tons more technical content than all the popular media websites. The author is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough.

aflorence – on the Intense Debate error (2nd link) I've not seen that before and I think Intense Debate will need to offer guidance on it – I'm just getting used to this new system myself.

On the first link, thanks – I think – never heard of that site before so not sure how accurate all their info is or why they have so much more to say than Giz etc. Perhaps a comment explaining the reason for the link would enlighten me …
