Critter – yeah, that's an easy thing to do of course. I guess if we were all optimists we would hope that some iPhone thieves are not likely to be very savvy iPhone users 🙂

Joe – good idea – just tried it, and no it does not turn Location Services on. It can still send a message to it successfully and have it popup on the screen and play the alert sound, but it cannot update its location, of course, without that service being on.

I imagine Remote Wipe may work without LS being on as well, but that's not one I care to test just now 🙂

It would be interesting to see if it's smart enough to enable location services when asked for its location. Patrick, care to experiment for us?

I'm so paranoid about losing my iPhone, I'm tempted to get Mobileme just because of this feature!! 🙂

I remember reading that location services being enabled didn't suck the battery after one of the updates. It's only using extra battery when you're using the feature, and all apps that use the feature alert you. I have mine enabled and really don't notice any quicker loss in battery usage.
