iPhone 3.0 Software Released

Apple today, released the iPhone 3.0 to the public, and is available for all iPhone and iPod Touch owners.

The update is a free download to all iPhone customers and $9.95 for all iPod Touch customers.

iPhone 3.0 offers over 100 new features such as cut/copy/paste that can be used across applications. Spotlight search is now on the iPhone, search for almost anything system wide. Landscape keyboard is now included in the apps Apple ships with the device such as Mail or notes. Safari auto-fill, so you don’t have to punch in your name and address every time you fill out a form. These features are just the surface of 3.0.

I’ve sat down with 3.0 for about an hour now and it’s great. It feels like Apple has brought it up to speed both literally and competitively. There is now no doubt the iPhone and Palm Pre are head-on competitors with both having similar, yet different approaches to the same smartphone market.

The full feature list can be found here. To download the update just connect your device to iTunes and click the “Check for Update” button.
