Evernote for iPhone has had its major update “ to Version 3.0 “ released today, nicely coinciding with the iPhone ‘s own 3.0 OS update. I ‘ve been looking forward to seeing this update, as Evernote is amongst my favorite and most-used apps, on desktop and iPhone.
I ‘ve been messing with the new Evernote 3.0 for just a short while, and I am impressed so far.
Some of the cool new things I ‘ve played with thus far include:
Notes View in Landscape mode “ Evernote ‘s blog calls this ‘cinema quality ‘. It presents mini-thumbnails of your notes, and you can tap on any of them to get a better peak at what it is. Very slick.
When you email a note, it ‘s all done within Evernote “ you have not been shipped out to the Mail app, and you ‘re straight back in your Notes view when you ‘re done sending. I don ‘t think this was the case before this version, but could be wrong.
The new Voice Note interface is improved. It now gives you a brief countdown to when recording will start, lets you play back your recording, and choose whether to discard or save it.
It seems generally faster and smoother, as was promised by the Evernote guys in their TUAW interview. The Notes list and individual notes seem to load significantly quicker.
You can use the index bar on the right of the notes view to move around super quickly among groups of notes.
You can see notes in Map View “ showing where you were when you created them. I don ‘t travel much, so this view is fairly boring for me, but I can see how this might be very handy for some folks who are on the road a lot.
There are lots more cool new features that I haven ‘t had a chance to explore yet. Check out Evernote ‘s blog post on the new 3.0 version HERE for lots more details on the good stuff in this update, and even more cool stuff coming in future versions, as well as a video demo-ing new features.
