Notanothermacblog.com is reporting that George Hotz (aka “GeoHot”), a 19-year old hacker, has possibly found a way to unlock the iPhone 3GS.
Currently, details are far and few between, however Hotz has posted an the following image in a blog showing a command entered inot the device’s iboot showing that the “signature checks” had been bypassed.
This is gibberish to me since I’m not a programmer. So if your in the same boat as me, the nut of this story is this: Hackers have gotten close to “unlocking” the iPhone 3GS to be used on unsupported carriers, and the device hasn’t even been on store shelves a full week.
You can check out the full story here. Once again my thanks to Killian Bell for bringing this story to my attention.
