Macenstein is reporting that the “Hottest Girls” app is going to be receiving an update soon. This update will allow nudity. I only report this in service of mentioning that the App Store’s restrictions appear to be more relaxed.
There were rumors to this effect back in May, that Apple would begin allowing more “mature” content into the App Store. The “Hottest Girls” app has a 17+ rating, and strong disclosures reading: “Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity” and “Frequent/Intense Mature/Suggestive Themes”
This comes only a week after Apple’s release of iPhone 3.0, which updated the restrictions settings on the device, allowing users more control. If you do download an app that is rated above your restricion level, the apps icon will disappear. Turn off restricions, and the app reappears.
My hope is that Apple keeps this area under close watch, because it could get out of hand in a hurry. My guess is we’ll see a sudden flurry of “mature” (if not pornographic) apps on the App Store very shortly.
