iSuppli is reporting that, after tearing down the new 16GB iPhone 3GS, it cost $172.46 in parts, and $178.96 total, after factoring in the $6.50 manufacturing cost. This time last year iSuppli estimated the cost of an 8GB iPhone 3G at $174.33.
These numbers don’t including many other factors such as patents, software development, research and develeopment, shipping and so on. That means no one really knows how much it costs Apple to produce an iPhone, except for Apple.
