I ‘m a big fan of a couple of AMC ‘s recent original series ‘ “ Mad Men and Breaking Bad. So the new, and free, AMC app for the iPhone grabbed my attention last night.
The app offers what you ‘d expect from this type of program “ including sneak peeks, cast interviews, behind-the-scenes ‘exclusives ‘, and sample full episodes of these AMC shows: Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Prisoner, Storymakers.
Obviously whether or not this app is of any interest to you will depend entirely on whether you ‘re a fan of any of the AMC programs featured. If you are, it seems quite a nice app from my short time of playing with it so far. You get plenty of interview videos, including lots that preview and discuss what ‘s coming next for a given series “ for instance, what to expect in Breaking Bad Season 3.
It ‘s easy to navigate through the app ‘s main sections, which are: Home, Videos, Most Viewed, Blogs, and More “ which has items like an AMC programming, a Favorites area, and search and feedback options.
The Videos section “ which is the real heart of the app “ is very well done. You can use the big forward and back arrows at the top of the screen to switch between sections for each of the featured show, plus some very nice extra sections, covering movie news and some great interviews with film luminaries in the Shootout section.
I spotted a couple of good interviews with Clint Eastwood that I want to watch in full soon, on ‘Changling ‘ and an upcoming film about Nelson Mandela. And quite a few others that look good.
The Videos section also has a very slick feature that I ‘ve not seen before and that I think may incorporate some new OS 3.0 SDK magic. When you are viewing a video, you can tap to bring up the controls (for fast forwarding, pausing, stopping etc) and tap to ‘Browse Clips ‘. This shows you a sort of Coverflow type view of other available clips for that section along a bottom strip of the screen, while the main video continues to play. Tap once on one of the clips in that strip and you switch immediately to that clip. Very nice.
AMC is in the App Store now, it ‘s free, and it ‘s a very nice little app.
