As of last week, Fake Steve Jobs is back after quite a long absence “ and it ‘s good to see him firing on all his ruthless and scathing cylinders. Over the last few days his posts are coming regularly again and Palm seems to be bearing the brunt of his satirical wrath.
On the weekend, a couple of his posts took aim at Palm ‘s advertising strategy and business plan for the Pre. To say his aim was true would be a huge understatement
Here ‘s a little taster on his thoughts on how effective the current ad strategy is, with comparisons between Pre and iPhone:
I mean it’s marketing 101. Do you remember what the ads for the original iPhone looked like? You remember seeing anything in those ads about the BlackBerry or the Treo? No. It was a whole new thing — sui generis, as the French say. It had to be. If all we could do was to make a slightly less shitty BlackBerry, and offer it for a few bucks less than what RIM was charging, we would not have bothered to make the product. Honest.

On their overall business plan for the Pre, FSJ compares Palm ‘s approach to starting up a Camaro car lot across the street from a Mercedes dealership. That post is good reading too “ check it out HERE.
So that ‘s another good thing the Palm Pre has done “ as well as bringing some real competition for the iPhone, it has managed to bring FSJ back. Nice work.
