SportsTap for iPhone Adds Push Notifications

SportsTap “ a leading sports scores and information portal app for the iPhone “ has been updated and now has push notifications enabled.

I ‘m very happy to see this one, as SportsTap has been a favorite app of mine ever since its days as a web app.  I much prefer it to ESPN ‘s ScoreCenter, and like the way they have implemented alerts as well.

Instead of just offering the basic choice of whether to let notifications use sounds / alerts / badges, or serving me up alerts on everything the app deems a major headline, it lets me choose which sports, and even which teams I want to get alerts on.

TeamSelect

I like that concept a lot, although it appears to be a bit buggy for me at the moment “ in that it originally showed me all the sports and leagues that SportsTap covers, but once I chose MLB and some teams, it now only shows me MLB when I go back to adjust the settings.  I hope I may find a way round this, or that it is something that will be fixed soon.

I also haven ‘t seen any actual alerts yet “ though this is nor surprise as I updated and setup my preferences for MLB alerts “ in the wee hours of the morning (last night).

The latest update “ to Version 3.0 “ also includes some UI enhancements and bug fixes.  One notable one is a new method for customizing your sports page.

SportsTap 3.0 is in the App Store now, it ‘s still a free app, and a very good one if you ‘re a sports fan.
