On the occasion of the 1 year anniversary of the App store, allow me to voice my personal sincere thanks and appreciation for the hard-working developers out there who have contributed to the iPhone app revolution.
Apple deserves much praise (albeit paired with fair and constructive criticism) for the creation of the app platform that allows ordinary yet knowledgable folks to explore the limits and boundaries of the iPhone APIs. In doing so, they ‘ve created who-knows-how-many-app-addicts around the world.
Case in point, as I write my husband is playing with an app that gives you a pocket massage, complete with cheesy Asian music. This is just 1 of the almost 100 apps he ‘s acquired in just 2 weeks! Armed with loads of spare time, he literally spends hours exploring the App store, downloading both useful and nonsensical stuff. Kinda reminds me of me 🙂
So what ‘s in an app?
Here is my personal list of thank-yous to app developers:
1. Thanks for attractive, easy-to-remember icons (for when I forget where I put an app) and app names
2. Thanks for free trial versions that help me decide whether to buy or not
3. Thanks for an easy-to-find support page and quick help
4. Thanks for working hard to improve apps, releasing bug fixes & updates
5. Thanks for decent font size and creative UI
6. Thanks for apps that are not memory hogs
7. Thanks for not overloading your apps with ads and for not nagging me to upgrade
8. Thanks for reliable sync servers for desktop software counterparts
9. Thanks for giving me cool options for customizing settings
And …
10. Thanks for your patience with Apple ‘s App approval process (I’ve heard you need it!)
Anything you’re particularly grateful about? Let us know in the comments…
