Hot on the heels of the release of iPhone OS 3.1 comes word that the House of Jobs will no longer support firmware restores of versions 3.0 or 3.0.1. Thank god I waited to update until I searched online to see if tethering would be disabled.

I have no plans to upgrade to 3.1 until tethering is an option with AT&T.

And if AT&T charges for it, not a problem….I'll just cancel my AT&T wifi at home (AT&T: You will NOT swindle me!)

3.1 definitely disables tethering. Wish I could go back to 3.0.1 firmware.

To clarify, 3.0.1 fixes the SMS vulnerability. 3.1 is a new OS update presently in closed beta. Big difference. 3.0.1 still allows tethering at present.

I really doubt that – for a few reasons. The lead researcher who discovered the vulnerability is very well-known and respected in this area. The vulnerability has also been shown to affect other mobile platforms, including Android and Windows Mobile. And the Black Hat conference that it was unveiled at is full of the world's top security experts from all sides of the fence. Nearly every year, there are some fakes and plants and so forth – and they are just about always outed very quickly by the veteran hackers that attend. I've heard nobody doubt the credibility of this vulnerability.

I use the tethering daily. I don;t care what fancy new things are in the 3.1 update, I'm not upgrading until it's fixed.

In reply to Jared Apperson. Thanks for the comment Jared. I'm disappointed by this as well, since I use the tethering quite frequently, though not daily, but several times a week. I have a feeling this is going to keep a lot of people on 3.0 until AT&T officially enables tethering later this summer (as they announced at WWDC).

Indeed, the tethering has been disabled. I'm very disappointed by this, as I've been using the tethering feature on AT&T almost daily. I am happy to report however, that Pandora has been fixed! As have several other bugs in the beta 1 release of 3.1
