Fans of World of Warcraft are either rejoicing or crying at the prospect of the ridiculously addicting game following them around even on their iPhones. Sure, you can’t quest or kill or enter PVP, but you can check on all your guild stats, use the built-in talent calculator, and show off all of your epic gear to the person you’re hitting on at the pub. Rawr.
There were a few free 3rd-party Armory apps before this, but Blizzard’s new app Blizzard apparently asked 3rd-party devs to stop their unofficial applications (according to WoW.com), despite the fact that they were really just glorified browsers. That certainly sucks for those smaller developers, but in the end this new free Armory app really does take the cake. It’s got all the familiar WoW sounds when you click on your inventory items, and the animations for switching screens are absolutely top-notch. My only gripe is that some areas (like character screens) can take a few too many taps to get to, but for a free 1.0 release (for a pay-to-play game), it’s not bad at all! I wonder what Leeroy Jenkins thinks.
