I ‘ve used a lot of very good iPhone apps, but I ‘m not sure I ‘ve ever come across any that have made me feel I ‘ve done a little bit of good for the world around me by using them. Until yesterday that is, when I discovered, installed, and made use of the Real Miracles app.
This app is a simple one, with a simple and absolutely admirable purpose “ to make it easy to donate to a good cause “ the Children ‘s Miracle Network, which is a non-profit organization that raises funds for children ‘s hospitals.
Here ‘s a little more about the Children ‘s Miracle Network, from their web site ‘s About page:
Children ‘s Miracle Network ‘s mission is to generate funds and awareness programs in partnership with and for the benefit of member hospitals/foundations and the children they are privileged to serve.
Who is Children’s Miracle Network?
Children ‘s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children ‘s hospitals. Countless individuals, organizations and media partners unite with Children ‘s Miracle Network hospitals to help sick and injured kids in local communities. Donations to Children ‘s Miracle Network create miracles by funding medical care, research and education that saves and improves the lives of 17 million children each year.Every child deserves the hope and healing of children ‘s hospitals. With the help of a Children ‘s Miracle Network hospital in their community, children of all ages and backgrounds can receive treatment for every imaginable disease and injury ”from asthma and broken bones to cancer and heart defects. Children ‘s hospitals are also on the front lines of research, education and outreach programs that keep millions of kids out of the hospital each year.
This year alone, Children ‘s Miracle Network hospitals will provide charity care worth billions, yet these children ‘s hospitals depend on community support to help fund their vital services.
Go HERE to learn lots more about this impressive organization.
There ‘s not much to the app, and there doesn ‘t need to be. You can use the ‘Explore ‘ section to learn more about the organization, to find a children ‘s hospital near you, or even to use a Shopping link that will take you out to Safari and let you shop online via many retailers who donate a percentage of sales to the Children ‘s Miracle Network each time that link is used.
There ‘s also a great video within the app that shows off the strides that are being made in medical care for children through this organization ‘s efforts. It basically shows off the ‘miracles ‘ it is helping to create every day.
And of course you can donate directly via the app “ using Paypal or via your phone bill.
One little touch in the app that I like a lot is that each time you launch it, it lets you know how many children have been helped by the Children ‘s Miracle Network since you last visited “ it ‘s great seeing big numbers there (the screencap below shows 189, but I opened it again this morning and the number was in the thousands).
In Austin we are very fortunate to have the excellent Dell Children ‘s Medical Center providing top class care for our kids. My daughter has been there once and received superb care, and although I hope she ‘ll never need to visit again, I am very glad that it is there, and being supported by organizations like the Children ‘s Miracle Network.
You can find the Real Miracles app in the App Store now, and both the app and the good feeling it ‘ll give you to use it, are completely free.
