iPhone Nano? No Thanks…

Like rumours of NetBooks and Tablets, speculations surrounding the ever-elusive iPhone Nano have once again resurfaced. This time, they come from the MacNN blog.

MacNN reports that a recently filed patent just might be the mysterious iPhone Nano. This patent design is one that could catch strong debate from Apple users, especially after what we’ve all heard and imagined about the iPhone Nano.

The front of the design shows the concept as having a full, LCD display, much like the current iPhone. The front screen UI will reportedly have different modes that will allow for text messaging, a phone interface, iPod controls, and a camera. Flip it over, and that’s where the real differences come in.

The back will allegedly have Apple’s infamous click-wheel. This dual-sided concept would allow users—or force them—to scroll through the information displayed on the front display.

As this is a rumour, it leaves much open to debate. Does the reappearance of the click-wheel in a time when everything’s about LCD touch-screens and talking Nanos leave much to be desired? Two years ago, most Mac users would have lined up for something like this—some still might—but in my opinion, it seems like a step backward for a company as cutting-edge as Apple.
