TUAW is reporting that Apple, in what can only be seen as an attempt to quell developer complaints, has now added a queue status graphic, and ‘all issues’ escalation email address.
First let’s start with the graphic. This straightforward graphic tells app submitters what percent of apps are getting approved and the current wait time. This will at lease give developers a ball park estimate on how long their app will take to hit the store from the time of submission.
The second feature, the email address, is for developers to use in case they need an urgent update prioritized and moved through the approval process quicker than usual. As TUAW points out, this feature was suggested by legendary Macintosh (and iPhone) developer Craig Hockenberry.
It appears that Apple is hearing developer complaints and are taking steps to remedy the situation. Seemingly small steps but that’s better than no steps at all. I like Justin Williams, feel that 14 days is far too long of an approval wait time, but we are making progress.
