Apple Tablet Seen Firsthand by Analyst, Competitors to Wait?

Barron’s (subscription required) is reporting that a “veteran analyst” has seen firsthand, a prototype of the rumored upcoming Apple tablet. The only details leaked by the source were that the device would excel at video playback.

“The machine impresses with its display of hi-def video content, says the veteran analyst, who asked not to be identified. “It’s better than the average movie experience, when you hold this thing in your hands.”

This same mythical source also stated that due to the anticipation around the forthcoming announcements, competitors have withheld their tablet designs from manufacture to wait and see what Apple releases.

“It’s close enough now to a final design that in Asia, there’s no other product in the waiting room or in the bullpen,” said the analyst. “There are dozens of ODMs [original device makers] making products for Lenovo and other PC makers that are all waiting to see what the Apple product is.”

Barron’s wraps up the report by rehashing the same things we’ve heard before, like a $699-$799 price point, and an autumn release.

My opinion? This story is crap, and I think this recent tweet from Sebastiaan De With sums this rumor up nicely.

Apple is not going to allow anyone outside of the company to see an unreleased product. Period.
