Coming Soon – Button Soccer for iPhone

Button Soccer for iPhone

Over the weekend I ‘ve had a quick look at an interesting new soccer game that should be coming to the iPhone very soon (it ‘s already been submitted for Apple ‘s approval).  It ‘s called Button Soccer, and it is an iPhone adaptation of a classic and popular Brazilian board game called Futebol de Mesa or Jogo de Botoes.

The game is played using disks or buttons as players who need to move the ball into the right positions to score goals, and defend against an opponent ‘s efforts.

Match

The game offers three modes “ Training, Match, and LAN Game.

Training is an absolute must with this game “ as it ‘s quite difficult to get the hang of moving your buttons around and hitting the ball correctly.

Match play is geared for two players who pass the phone and play at opposing ends of the field.  Playing one player, as I did when trying it out, is awkward and not a barrel of laughs unless you ‘re a real pro at this I expect.

The LAN Game will allow you to play against someone over a wireless network.  I didn ‘t have a chance to try this mode out.

If you ‘ve played Button Soccer or similar games before, this game looks like a good rendering of the classic board game that you ‘ll enjoy “ or that ‘s my guess anyway, as I ‘ve heard of but never played the real version.

For anyone who has not played the original board game, I think the iPhone version will need some fine tuning to make it a little more user friendly and make the controls a little easier to get the hang of.  I found it very tough to get into the game because of the difficulty in mastering these.  Definitely not a ‘dive right in ‘ type game unless you ‘re already a real ace at the board game.

Button Soccer is currently awaiting approval by Apple, and will be priced at $1.99 when it hits the App Store.

You can check out a good demo video of it HERE

Thanks to the guys at Mobits for giving us a sneak peek at Button Soccer.  I ‘m a big soccer fan, so this one may get a bit of use if I can just get to grips with the finer controls in it.
