For anyone who was hoping that the built-in video on the iPhone 3GS was going to mean we ‘d soon see some well-known live streaming video apps make it to the App Store, this is not a good sign. Ustream has released a video recording app in the App Store “ called Ustream 3G S Recorder “ but it cannot do live streaming.
I ‘d guess that the app ‘s name is a big hint on how long it ‘s been held up in the review process, since Apple changed from 3G S to 3GS as the naming convention for the new model quite a few weeks ago.
The new app will let you record video and send it to Ustream, Twitter, or the Ustream on Facebook application.
Presumably the same sort of neutering will happen to Qik and other live streaming video apps if they make their way to the App Store.
I ‘ve never been a Ustream user “ or user of any video streaming app for that matter “ so I ‘m not sure whether the lack of live streaming is just a very big disappointment or a reason to skip the app altogether for those who are regular users of the service.
You can find Ustream 3G S Recorder in the App Store now, and it ‘s free.
