The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple’s Board of Directors plan to meet this Tuesday to discuss the vacant seat left after Google CEO Eric Schmidt resigned his position on the board due to increased competition between Apple and Google.
WSJ:
Whoever Apple elects as a director will be closely watched. The current board has been criticized by investors and corporate governance experts for its lack of independence from Mr. Jobs.
One person close to Apple has said in the past that Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook may be appointed to the board in the not-too-distant future. It’s unclear whether directors will consider a board seat for Mr. Cook at next Tuesday’s session.
I would almost put money on the Board electing Cook for the position. He is the obvious successor to Steve Jobs and would, in my opinion, be an excellent addition to the Apple Board of Directors.
