Have you ever tried to get involved with beta testing an upcoming new iPhone app? If so, you know that the developers of an app need your iPhone ‘s unique identifier, or UDID, in order to register it for beta testing. The typical way to go about this is to attach your iPhone to your PC (via its USB sync cable) and click on the Serial Number field on the Summary page in iTunes and copy it into an email.
That ‘s an easy enough process once you know how to copy the UDID, but there are now several apps for the iPhone that make it even easier. I found three when I wasn ‘t even really looking. 🙂
What I mean by not really looking is that I noticed one new app with this purpose hit the App Store last week “ so I thought I ‘d see how many there are, and quickly found three:
They ‘re all free, and they all get the job done nicely with a just a tap or two once you launch them. I did a quick test with each, and they all reported the UDID accurately via email. None of them seems to offer the ability to copy the UDID, only to email it.
All three apps work perfectly well in carrying out their simple task, and UDIDit offers the most complete set of information “ with not just the UDID captured, but also your iPhone model (3G, 3GS etc), Model ID, Firmware version, and storage space numbers (space available/space free).
Happy unique identifying. 🙂
