Apple has released two new ‘Get a Mac’ ads. Both ads feature the same lovable Mac and PC characters portrayed by Justin Long and John Hodgman respectively. The two ads are aiming to deflate Microsoft’s ongoing ‘Laptop Hunters’ ad campaign.
The first of the two ads is entitled Top of the Line. This ad features a lady shopping for a ‘top of the line’ PC. After listing her requirements she comes to one that PC’s can’t handle, stability. The suave ‘top of the line’ PC is portrayed by Patrick Warburton.
The Second ad follows the same scathing theme as the first. It starts off with Mac and a customer inquiring about her next computer. Mac then shockingly recommends a PC. After a little encouragement the customer leaves the scene. Then suddenly Mac pulls off a mask to reveal that he is actually PC is disguise. The real Mac enters the frame in mild astonishment.
Both ads are entertaining, and I can think of no other company where most consumers would get this excited to watch an advertisement. That said, Apple is still playing it too nice and they should really hammer Microsoft where it hurts, without compromising on the same classiness that has defined this ad campaign.
