I have always felt that the iPhone deals with spelling mistakes the wrong way. I make spelling mistakes all the time, not just because my typing is sometimes wrong, but because I use slang words often. The iPhone does not know how to differentiate between these two types of mistakes, so it simply tries to correct all the mistakes. This causes problems for me because the iPhone will often correct some of my words that I do not want to have corrected. At the same time, it is not worth turning spell correction off because it is useful most of the time.
This is where Inspell comes in, a system wide spell checker that is available in the Cydia store for jailbroken phones. Once you install Inspell you will notice its features right away. No matter where you are on your iPhone, Inspell will put a red line under any misspelled word, just like on your mac.

As you can see, Inspell works in any app, where ever there is a text field. To correct a misspelled word, simply double tap the misspelled word. Inspell adds a new tab to cut, copy and paste menu called “Correct.”

After you hit correct, a menu pops up with the possible corrections for your misspelled word along with the option to add the word to the dictionary. (You would add a word to the dictionary if you do not want the word underlined in the future. This is good for the popular slang words that we all use.) In the list, if you see the word you would like to correct your misspelling with, just select it. The word will then be automatically corrected.

If there are too many suggestions, to fit on a page, Inspell extends the list into a scrollable format.

Inspell also has a few settings that can be configured. You can get to the app ‘s settings via your stock Settings application. In the settings, you are given the ability to turn on and off the application, the ability to turn on and off Heuristics, the ability to choose a language and the ability to clear the user Dictionary.
Inspell, by default comes with the English language pack, but you can install different language packs for the app in Cydia.

Inspell is one of those apps that makes jailbreaking worth the risk. The best thing about Inspell is that it allows me to CHOOSE the words I want to be corrected. With the iPhone’s automatic spell corrector turned off and Inspelled turned on, iPhone typing has never been easier.
You can download Inspell from the Cydia store for $2.99. It is definitely worth it.
