The ‘no-junk business iPhone apps finder’ Is Complete Junk

NoJunk

There are thousands of apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch — but finding the ones you want is very difficult within Apple’s iTunes Store, especially for business users, since all business apps are lumped together into one massive category. To help people find business-oriented iPhone apps more easily, InfoWorld has categorized them and put them into the sortable table below. If you want to look at just one category, just go to its own section using the pop-up menu below.

A nice idea from InfoWorld.  It would be nice to have a good place to search out business apps for the iPhone.  The only problem is, the page for this is about as badly implemented as it possibly could be right now.

The ‘finder ‘ is basically one big, and pretty ugly, table. Selecting fiddly little arrows alongside individual app names will expand out that table row and show you a ratty looking inset box with a description for the app, just as an example.  In fact, almost zero attention seems to have been paid to presentation “ which is a shame, because there are several App Store alternatives and add-ons out on the web that present information very well, and that are well-designed.

Oh, and it mostly doesn ‘t work either.  By default it presents business apps from all categories “ so it opens with a whole bunch of calculator apps to be scrolled past to get to any potentially more interesting items.  What you are meant to be able to do is select  category of interest, and filter the view to show just apps from that category.  This utterly fails to work for me.  I ‘ve tried in Firefox, Safari, and even IE.  I ‘ve allowed popups from the site to try to help it along, and done numerous page refreshes “ all to no avail.  Thus far, it ‘s a case of stare at calculator apps or stare at calculator apps.

Your mileage may vary, but for me this is a good idea that needed a lot more testing before going live “ and could really do with being much better designed as well if it ‘s supposed to be a helpful resource at some point.

Check the page out for yourself HERE if you feel so inclined, and let me know what I ‘m missing.
