TriviaBurst is a social trivia game for the iPhone. Instead of just a straight trivia game such as Millionaire, TriviaBurst brings the social aspect of gaming to trivia. Allowing you to play one on one directly against friends or in a group, TriviaBurst is a good game for the trivia lovers, but can definitely use some more polishing up.
Since TriviaBurst is inherently a social game, it asks you to register an account when you first open it up. Once you have created an account, you can do many things from the menu.

If you want to play a regular came by yourself, you must first choose your settings. You can choose the difficulty from easy to hard to random. You can choose the questions per game, whether you want music on or off and if you want notifiers on and off. Once you pick your settings, you can choose from 3 main categories (Entertainment, General Knowledge and Sports) and 12 subcategories. Then you can jump right in the game.

The gameplay of TriviaBurst acts very similar to all other trivia games. You have four multiple choice answers, if you get it right it says, “correct,”if you get it wrong it says “wrong” and shows you the right answer. It is fairly simple. There are no real problems with the gameplay, but I do not find it to be nearly as exciting as some of the other trivia apps such as Millionaire. The music is nowhere near intense and I just don’t have that feeling of trying to get the best score like I do in a game like Millionaire. If I were the developer of TriviaBurst, I would try adding better music to the game, or allow the user to select their own music. There should also be an option for a different kind of game type, one that would have you lose as soon as you get a question wrong. This kind of game play is much more exciting to me.

The real fun of TriviaBurst comes from playing friends head to head. You can simply put in the user name of your friend and play against them. The only problem with this is that there is no option for you to find a random person around the world and play them. You can only play if you know the persons username. This becomes a problem. How many of your friends has an iPhone, has TriviaBurst and wants to play online? Not too many… TriviaBurst needs the ability for online play, with random people around the world. This would make me want to play the game much more.
TriviaBurst also allows you to submit your own questions and have them be answered by people around the world. This is a good way to keep questions fresh and not have the same ones keep coming up over and over again. This was a very good idea from the developer.

Overall, I do no think TriviaBurst is worth the $2.99 in the App Store, but if you really love trivia games, you might like it. Maybe if the developer updated the app with some new online features, it could be worth it. But for right now, I would pass and go for something like Millionaire.
