OK, so I guess the Genius feature for app recommendations is going to take a little while to ‘learn ‘ and then be able to offer me some better suggestions. Right now, having only just turned it on last night, it is providing mostly comedic value with its picks for me.
The most ironic of those “ no contest “ is the one shown in the screencap above. It is recommending an app called Memory Status which states that it will display ‘current core applications running (typically in the background) ‘ “ and look what else it can do:
and provides the option to terminate and recover memory in use by them.
As many of you know, two popular apps used to free memory on the iPhone “ iStat and Free Memory – have recently been forced to remove the memory freeing features from their apps, because the level of system access needed to carry out those tasks i snot allowed by the SDK.
So the huge irony in the Genius recommendation is that not only is it suggesting an app that breaks the same rules those two others were pulled up on, but it says it recommends it ‘Based on iStat ‘ “ one of those very apps! LOL. Good call. Go grab Memory Status before it gets neutered too eh? That is if you haven ‘t kept an un-update version of iStat or and old version of Free Memory of course. 🙂
Some other slightly-less-than-Geniusy style recommendations I ‘ve got so far:
iTranslate “ which is a series of language translating apps – based on Analytics, which is an app that helps me track site statistics and such.
AppSniper “ which helps find App Store discounts / hidden gems “ based on Things, which is a task manager app.
And my favorite so far
Faces Visual Dialer “ which is just as its name suggests “ based on iStat, which shows available memory and lots of system information for the iPhone or other monitored computers.
I fully expect that Genius will get much better with time, and look forward to that. In the meantime, it ‘s serving up some good laughs.
How about you all? What are some of the best “ comical or serious “ pure genius app recommendations you ‘ve had so far?
