iFixit has broken down the new iPod Touch, and has made some interesting discoveries. As seen above, they have found a space in the circuit board that was not present in previous models. This blank space lines up nicely with where a camera was rumored to be located on the device.
This consistent with a report from AppleInsider claiming that the iPod Touch was going to have a camera, but hit production problems about a month ago. They also believe the iPod Touch soon have be updated with a camera as originally planned.
Another interesting discovery was the inclusion of a Broadcom BCM4329 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip. This chip is capable of transmitting data at the faster 802.11n frequency. So Apple is artificially handicapping the wireless capabilities of the new iPod Touch, because it runs at the slower 802.11b/g frequencies.
More and more evidence is suggesting that the iPod Touch was going to have a camera this product cycle, but a snag occurred somewhere during production and the inclusion of a camera was delayed. How long will it be delayed? Who knows.
