AT&T ceased offering their unlimited data plans (for iPhone and all smartphones) back on June 6th. If you already had one prior to that date, when you renew your contract with them you can choose to keep it going by 'grandfathering' it in. If you want to add new features to your plan (e..g tethering) they will insist that you switch to their new data plans – which offer a tiny 200MB / month for $15 or 2GB for $25 per month.

I've been w/ them for about 9 years now, and as a high end user (defined as spending lots of $ each month), they take pretty good care of me. At one time, I had two lines of service w iPhones (the things we'll do to get a new phone). Now I'm trying to decide about the new phone. My son works for Apple, and has told me that ATTWS plans to change the data plans, and therefore the cost. Any input out there? I almost wish that Verizon would enter the fray; I too believe that competition can be a good thing. I'd rather that both Verizon and ATTWS have the iPhone.

I just switched from Verizon I'm on for 2 years anyway. As for competition I don't see much changing basically with Verizon the blackberry with data plans are identical to AT&T s iPhone plan. So I wouldn't care. It might make me more happy for not waiting to switch lol

Thank god for WiFi b/c without it the iPhone would be worthless on an EDGE network connection. There is a major hospital right down the street from me…. You would think AT&T would have 3G service around places like that. I was listening to the interview with Sprint's CEO & he was talking about 4G and all I kept thinking was AT&T does not even have 3G everywhere. I like AT&T's billing & customer service + the IPhone is why I stick with them. I really hope things get better.

AT&T has done NOTHING to improve service around my area, we dont even have 3g, let alone better coverage for calls. I want out of at&t bad.
