The developer typically has increased the price for the app right before an update and then lowered it again about a month later.

For free equivalents, I prefer Evernote, or Reqall. $2.99 for Toodledo seems overpriced to me, but maybe I just don't see enough of its uses to be worth the (minor) investment when other (free) viable options are available.
