There might have been a large number of updates just because developers added keywords to their apps (a new requirement to be found in the store)

I have been waiting for an update for Minigore (my favorite game) since August. Mountain Sheep, the developer, submitted the update back in August. Apple rejected the update on September 9th. It took Apple 1 month to let Mountain Sheep know about the rejection. Mountain Sheep has resubmitted their Minigore update on September 11.
