New and Upcoming Musical iPhone Games: Tap Tap Revenge 3 and Rock Band

Remember me? My name is Thomas and I used to write more on this site…until Minigore Episode 2 was released the other day. However, I have decided to come out of my fur-covered cave (I take their corpses as trophies!) to cover just a wee bit of iPhone news about some musical apps:

Tap Tap Revenge 3 is out for $0.99 (it would be free, but in-app purchases require a $0.99 minimum app price) right now and it looks a lot better than its predecessor judging from the screenshots. I doubt I’ll be buying this one as I just never really got into the series, and my mind just can’t process tapping on three separate streams of dots flying into my face. But then again, it’s so ridiculously good looking I just might. I do like how they’re really supportingthe fan base and allowing imports of premium tracks from the releases for artists like Lady Gaga and Coldplay.

Rock Band for iPhone was also announced pretty recently, although I still don’t think the platform adapts well to non-instrument shaped controllers. There are 20 tracks in total (more to come via paid downloads), and an interesting four-player Bluetooth multiplayer mode where you can jam out live with your friends. The funny part is that you can’t sing into the iPhone to play along with friends — you just tap out the singing parts just like the instrumentals. It’s probably still enjoyable, but it does seem a little silly. There aren’t any words on pricing yet, but you’ll definitely hear about it when the game is released. There isn’t any such thing as a quiet EA Games release.
