Things is one of my most favorite, and most used, apps “ on both the iPhone and the desktop. I ‘m a huge user of task lists to manage my life, and use Things just about exclusively to stay on top of all my things to do.
It is an excellent app “ easy to use, with a gorgeous UI that makes you want to use it, which is a big help to me in keeping up with tasks. I ‘ve very rarely experienced any problems with the app “ on iPhone or desktop “ in over a year of use. Just lately though I ‘ve been experiencing an odd and quite annoying sync issue with it.
My issue is with tasks that have been in my Today view, and then moved to the Scheduled area (and scheduled for a date in future, not today). Just lately, whenever I make these changes on the desktop and then sync with the iPhone, all those tasks are thrown back into my Today view following the sync.
It ‘s as if the iPhone ‘s version of the tasks ‘ scheduling is overriding the desktop version, or the sync process is not able to determine where latest changes occurred and merge them correctly.
Not an end of the world type issue, but irritating to deal with when I ‘ve just cleared a good handful of tasks out of my Today view and scheduled them for a more appropriate due date, and then have to do it all over again after a sync.
Happily, I reported this to Cultured Code, makers of Things, just yesterday “ and got back a quick and positive response, acknowledging the issue, offering a (somewhat clumsy) workaround, and stating that a fix is on the way with the next update for Things iPhone:
We are aware of that behavior. We were able to reproduce it and will provide a fix for that in version 1.4. of Things iPhone.
This happens on the first sync after midnight, where in special cases Things cannot determine correctly which changes are more recent.
You can work around this bug by doing the first sync of the day without having done any changes. Every subsequent sync will work as expected.
Always good to see an excellent app that also gets excellent support.
