I have to admit, when I first heard of the MallMaps app, which is coming soon to the App Store and is a sort of ‘Google Maps for US shopping malls ‘ , I couldn ‘t work up any interest in it “ as I just hate going to malls, and try to avoid setting foot in them whenever possible.
One of our faithful readers (and champion commenters) “ aflorence “ has been setting me straight on Twitter this morning though. Doh “ I completely failed to think of the ‘rapid escape ‘ angle that this app offers for folks like me, and for aflorence as well:
Use Mall Maps to locate the nearest entrance/escape route, get what I need, get the hell outta there!
Now that I like the sound of. In. Out. Fast. That is exactly the strategy on the rare occasions that it is necessary to visit a mall.
And I suppose it ‘s true that this upcoming app should be a big help in getting that done. Here ‘s a little background on it and some of its features:
Introducing the latest Shiny Metal Object from MEDL Mobile ‘s App Incubator: MallMaps. MallMaps is a comprehensive database of malls, shopping centers and Plazas across the US. MallMaps was submitted to the App Incubator by Student and Tech Guru, Shayne Faerber of Naples, FL.

¢ GPS Location-based search “ find all the malls around you
¢ Browse malls by state

¢ Favorites: Choose your favorite stores for quick access ”automatically categorizes to their respective malls
¢ Address, phone number and URL of every mall
¢ Phone number of every store within mall profile
¢ Google Maps directions to every locationBENEFITS
¢ The mall ‘s entire floor plan and store list in the palm of your hand

Another important issue that came up on Twitter is that zombies like malls (and everybody knows this), and in searching for an image for this post I was reminded that ‘One of the best places to seek refuge during a zombie epidemic is your local shopping mall ‘. So knowing your way around them becomes even more critical in all zombie attack type situations.
Now that I ‘ve had both the rapid escape and the zombie attack elements of the app pointed out to me, I may need to give MallMaps more serious consideration once it hits the App Store.
It ‘s due to hit the App Store in a little under two days. In the meantime, you can get more info on it HERE.
