Universal Search for iPhone could be a little more universal

Universal Search for iPhone

I think I may have accidentally broken my favourite Universal Search (previously covered here) I’ve been toying with other Jailbreak apps, but I think I’ve been pretty careful about which ones I load and I don’t think they’d interfere with this Spotlight. The problem right now is that Uni Search won’t load my local movie listings anymore, and that’s one of the features I bought the app for. I’ve e-mailed their support team with my troubleshooting details and am hoping I’ll get some help soon, but I digress…

What I’d really like to talk about is the auto-dialing feature, which is a really cool idea. You can start to type a set of numbers in and Universal Search will recognize that you’re dialing someone and show you a set of relevant options. It’s a little clumsy without having a proper numpad to type with, but if you’re like me, you might have stopped memorizing most of your friends’ phone numbers a while ago. What if you’re so ridiculously spoiled by years of contact list and address book usage, that you can’t remember your own date of birth without looking for “Thomas” in Contacts (although that’d be my birthday you’d see, not yours). What I had expected to find in Uni Search was auto-dialing when I type a name out, but all I get right now is a link to the contact, which launches my address book. If I could just get this one feature (and my movies list, please!) then Uni Search would officially be my saviour and I would find some way to add it to Canada’s national anthem.

By the way, 10 useless kudos points to any fellow Canucks who know the number I was dialing in that screenshot!
