App Star Awards – Finding & Showcasing The Next Great iPhone Apps

appstarawards

The App Star Awards is the first contest to highlight and reward new iPhone apps eventually heading to the App Store…
30 apps will be preselected and our prestigious Jury will pick 3 lucky winners in each category (game, entertainment, utility and other).

Appsfire, the app-sharing service we ‘ve posted on several times and recently reviewed “ is going to run the App Star Awards in partnership with SFR/AppliStore and LeWeb Paris 09.

The idea of a contest to pick out some great new iPhone apps before they ever hit the App Store is a very exciting one “ and I ‘m doubly excited because I get to be on the judging panel for these new apps! I don ‘t know how, but I somehow slipped onto a rather illustrious list of folks who are on the awards ‘ ‘über-jury ‘.

Here ‘s a little more detail, via a TechCrunch report, on how the awards are going to work:

The idea is very simple. Anyone that has a legit iPhone application that doesn ‘t require jailbreaking, can submit a 30 second video to the contest, even if the app is not totally finished. 30 clips will be preselected, 10 in each category ” games, entertainment, utility and other. Those clips will be reviewed and rated by a jury (full list below). Three winners, one in each category, will get a check of $1,500 and a free ad campaign with participating partners.

And here ‘s the very cool reasoning behind this particular approach to iPhone app awards, from one of the founders:

But beyond that they’ll get massive recognition even before they started on the App Store and we all know how difficult this is to get noticed in this jungle

We created the app star awards because we believe good apps deserve to be better discovered and rewarding them is a nice way to put them under the spotlights. Developers put a lot of efforts in creating apps and the path to success is hard. We hope this little even will contribute to make things a little easier for them

Aspiring developers who want a shot at the awards and prizes can start pre-registering on the site now “ HERE.  Full app submissions are due to open up on November 23rd “ and the results and winners will be announced on stage at LeWeb in Paris on December 9th.
