This has been yet another good week for astonishing iPhone numbers. We had huge sales figures reported amongst Apple ‘s latest quarterly results at the beginning of the week, and the charts and data presented by a Morgan Stanley internet analyst (Mary Meeker) are even more impressive.
The one above shows the iPhone / iPod Touch combo as having the fastest hardware user growth in the history of all consumer tech. Edging out several game consoles, and leaving the iPod and the Blackberry way, way in the dust.
A couple more things that jump off the page in TechCrunch ‘s report on Meeker ‘s presentation are the iPhone ‘s impact on mobile web usage (emphasis below is mine) and the fact that the iPhone OS (iPhone plus Touch devices) is being adopted at a faster rate than the early desktop internet:
Yesterday at the Web 2.0 Summit, Morgan Stanley Internet analyst Mary Meeker did her annual data dump slide presentation, this year focusing on the growth prospects of the mobile Web. As usual, there were 3 or 4 slides that really captured the trends she was talking about, particularly the ones around iPhone adoption and how that phone in particular is catapulting mobile Web usage into the mainstream.
Taken together, the adoption of the iPhone and iPod Touch is outstripping the early adoption the desktop Internet, as represented by AOL and Netscape
Maybe somebody should point these out to Steve Ballmer, next time he ‘s talking about how the internet ‘s not designed for the iPhone. π
